5 factors that effect your whole horse

Your horse as a whole needs to be considered when looking at any issues. MC believes that there are many factors that contribute to horses's issues and likely the horse's system which includes, the body, feet, feed, behavior and environment which can all contribute to factors which cause problems in equines. MC believes it is vital to have a properly supported whole body equine system and that system needs to be in balance in order for your horse to be able to self-heal and be at it's optimal best.

During a coaching session MC will discuss what she feels the horse needs first and foremost regarding the following:
  • Body
  • Environment
  • Feed
  • Feet
  • Behavior

The Equine Body - MC will investigate by photo, via video, or in person your horse's muscles, fascia (very important connective tissue), ligaments, tendons, and bones, while also paying attention to the teeth/mouth and hair coat. She will then provide options for problem solving, including how to organically address, reduce, and resolve issues and concerns and even optimize the health of your horse - inside and out. You can expect to engage in a dialogue regarding the importance and effectiveness of do-it-yourself massage, professional massage, various forms of addressing spine-related concerns, many healing modalities, herbs, detoxing agents, and nutraceuticals (organic nutrient substances).
The Equine Environment - MC will discuss how to identify certain energies and physical elements, some of which may not be obvious, that can be life-threatening. She’ll also advise on how to reduce exposure and risk, protect your horse, and even eliminate harmful materials in your - and your horse’s - immediate environment, in addition to educating you on what some life-enhancing replacement options are.
The Feed Program - MC is not a veterinarian. All consideration to any information she may offer must be made from a personally independent and informed place. MC’s feed recommendations follow her belief system derived from over 10 years’ experience with working in the equine wellness field – as well as her own personal significant learning experience of having to save her own life with the help of a chemical-free, clean, organic, “whole food” program. It is MC’s wholehearted belief that “The body wants to heal - we just have to get out of its way.”
Equine Feet/Hooves - MC is not a farrier. All consideration to any information she may offer must be made from a personally independent and informed place. MC has examined and palpated the horse muscular skeletal system thousands of times and views the feet of a horse much like any support system of any structure - although unique unto itself, as it has a massive, multilayered, live network of communication tissue surrounding it. With her personal experience in working with many expert farriers, she feels it is imperative that the support system of the horse be in centered alignment with what it’s supporting.

The foot of a horse must offer balanced support not only to the singular leg but also the whole horse. If this balance is lacking, then the muscles and other connective tissues throughout the entire body must create an excessive “grip” or else the horse could fall or break its leg. It is MC’s opinion that this is where many muscle spasms, the hardening of tissues, misaligned joints, and very painful spinal compression unnecessarily develop. She’ll look for imbalance and a lack of proper support, and if she finds any deviation from the optimal structure support and growth, she’ll make a recommendation that you either take your horse to your regular farrier, or even to another farrier, who will hopefully be willing to discuss ideas, bring his or her own knowledge to the situation, and execute a united plan with MC and you in the best interest of the horse. MC feels that the feet of the modern equine contribute to the lack of a “whole, healthy body/mind” and that with much correction, improved ideal growth and pain reduction can be fostered.
Equine Behavior - MC believes that a horse’s behavior is a reflection of his or her structural and internal state of being. If a horse is suffering physically, “bad” behavior will manifest mentally;  if his or her behavior is sluggish, then the animals internal state of being is sluggish and is not in optimal working condition. Most importantly, if your horse is trying to hurt you, it is MC’s belief that it’s because he or she is in pain, and since horses are very tolerant of humans, when they do act out they are likely hurting quite a bit. MC will evaluate your horse’s behavior and look for clues as to what could be triggering negative actions and reactions.

MC is not a trainer and leaves that work up to the many amazing horsemen and horsewomen who are specialists in that area. However, no matter how savvy a trainer is at getting a horse to push through personal roadblocks, that person cannot “train” them away. They will remain, and the horse will suffer in silence until problems are dealt with either by preventive wellness care or eventually acute veterinary crisis care. In addition to knowing about regular care for horses, many trainers are learning more about how to address the structure and internal roadblocks – which can affect a horse very positively in so many areas. After 10 years of experiencing many of the major physiological concerns horses face, it is MC’s opinion that a trainer who wants to “control” a horse and is not holistically open-minded to problem-solving the pain is not a good one, regardless of how many accolades that person has received. All horses, but especially those used for racing, should not be slave-bound and forced to a life of silent pain.
Horses are amazingly stoic - they have been trained, bred, and often forced to be that way to carry humans throughout different periods of time and unfortunately during countless wars. However, when horses are pushed past the threshold of pain, fear, and stress, they will do what is natural to them, which is to protect themselves by biting, kicking, or throwing the painful threat off their back. We don’t want that!

We must always remember that pain, whether it is in the body or the mind, is a warning that something is wrong. We must not simply look for and address the pain – we must search for, and with organic logic address to the best of our ability, the “wrong” that caused the pain.
NOTE: MC is not a veterinarian and does not provide veterinary diagnoses or veterinary treatment recommendations; because of this, MC assumes that you have already had your horse assessed by a veterinarian to address and rule out any veterinary concerns first and also to approve your desire for a multidimensional approach to your horses care. Furthermore, if MC feels it’s critical that your horse to be assessed by a veterinary professional at any point during her counseling, she will absolutely, without question recommend that you do so.
